First Event GmbH aims to make deichgraf-event.de usable by everyone. This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Every page was tested automatically with axe in four display modes, and keyboard operation and every colour pair were checked by hand. Automated testing covers only part of the criteria — there has been no formal audit. This statement is voluntary: as a venue we are not a public body, and the enquiry form does not conclude a contract online.
What we have done
- Semantic HTML with one heading per level, landmarks and a skip link to the main content.
- Every function reachable by keyboard, with a clearly visible focus ring.
- Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, interface elements at least 3:1, measured for every colour pair in the design system.
- Descriptive alternative text on every image, naming room, occasion and location.
- Form fields with real labels, error messages in words rather than colour alone, and focus that moves to the first faulty field.
- All motion switched off when the operating system requests reduced motion — and a „Pause motion“ switch in the settings panel for everyone else.
- The site works without JavaScript except for the enquiry form, which needs it for spam protection. An email address is offered instead.
- A settings panel, bottom left, with contrast modes, a reading mode, highlighting for links and headings, a large cursor, a switch to pause motion and sliders for content scale, font size, line height and letter spacing. Alt+0 resets everything.
What is not yet accessible
- 360-degree tour. The panorama comes from an external provider. We cannot guarantee its keyboard operation or screen reader output. All information it shows is also available in words on The Venue.
- Foodbook as PDF. The document is not tagged. Ask us and we will send the content as plain text or read it out over the phone.
- Photos of events. The alternative texts describe rooms and settings. Where a photo carries a mood rather than information, the text is deliberately short.
